The check was given to Red Kite Academy

A snack company held a charity football tournament at Corby Town FC to raise money for the Red Kite Special Academy.

Taste Original, which is based on the Earlstrees Industrial Estate, hosted 24 teams for the event which took place on the grounds of Steel Park.

The five-a-side tournament was held at the end of May and raised a whopping £2,781.68 for the Purbeck Drive school, whose pupils have a huge range of many different educational needs.

The bosses of the company went to the school to hand over a check.

Taste Original training coordinator Craig McKirdy said: “We tried to get local businesses to join us in raising as much money as possible for the kids.

Red Kite will spend the money to run its summer vacation program for its students to keep them active and engaged over the summer and provide respite for hard-working families.

“It’s the second tournament we’ve organised. We did the last one in 2019 but had to take a break due to the pandemic.

“The Red Kite Cup was won by Sawyer Building Control and the plate for second went to Taste Original who lost on penalties.

“We had a lot of support from the club and the Clubhouse and we would like to thank them.”

Next year’s event will take place on Saturday 3rd June 2023 at Corby Town FC and any five-man teams wishing to take part can email [email protected]
