Former Austin Peay State University football player killed in Oklahoma City shooting

CLARKSVILLE, Tennessee (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A former Austin Peay State University football player was killed in a shootout in Oklahoma City on Monday.

Nigel Brannon, 21, was found dead around 2 p.m. at 11241 N. Pennsylvania Ave., according to Captain Valerie Littlejohn, chief information officer for the Oklahoma City Police Department.

“Based on what we had, officers were called in to respond to a shooting there. When they arrived they found the victim, who is Nigel, who died at the scene, ”Littlejohn told Clarksville Now.

Investigation determined that before gunfire broke out, Brannon was in a car with 22-year-old Paris Tolver.

“It was believed that with them there was some sort of illegal activity that resulted in the gunfire,” Littlejohn said.

Tolver was arrested and charged with first degree murder, Littlejohn said.

Brannon was a defensive lineman for the Govs. He was suspended from the APSU football team in July when he was charged with aggravated assault after allegedly cutting the neck of another player in a fight.

Clarksville Now has contacted APSU Athletics for comment and to confirm Brannon’s status with the football team. Brannon is not currently listed on Govs’ online football roster.
