Ivan Verdera Ferrer, a junior football player for Ibiza Football Club, died in a car accident in Formentera, Spain on Monday August 29.

News of the Ibiza junior footballer’s death was shared on Twitter by the club’s official account:

“Today is a sad and painful day for the whole UD Ibiza family. Official statement.

The full statement said:

“From Unión Deportiva Ibiza we are deeply sorry to announce the death of Iván Verdera Ferrer, a player of our Juvenil A, aged only 16, who left us this morning after suffering a road accident. traffic yesterday on the island of Formentera.”

“From Ibiza, we join in the pain of his parents, family and friends.”

“Always with us, Ivan. Rest in peace.”

To which Rayo Celta football club responded:

“Bad news. All our support and love for Ivan’s family, friends and colleagues. A big hug for the
@ibizaud RIP.

Footballer Javi Lara tweeted:

“All my encouragement and my support for the family! These things should not exist!

Zaragoza Football Club tweeted:

“Our deepest condolences and a big hug to Ivan’s family and all of @ibizaud at this difficult time.”

Alicante Hercules Football Club tweeted:

“Hercules CF wishes to send its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Iván Verdera, player of the Juvenil A team of Ibiza UD.

The news comes after the UK Resuscitation Council took to Twitter on Tuesday August 30 to congratulate paramedics who rescued a 24-year-old Spanish footballer who suffered cardiac arrest during a match in the UK.
