Jackson, NJ Police find teenager with gun during school football game
JACKSON – Township police have arrested a teenager who was found with a handgun and ammunition during a high school football game on Friday night.
Officers assigned to the Jackson Liberty High School home game against Shore Regional High School had received a tip about the armed teenager, police said.
Police and school security found the man and took him into custody without incident, finding a .22 caliber handgun and ammunition in his backpack.
The arrest did not disrupt the game. It was not immediately clear whether he was a student at either school playing.
The teenager, whose identity was withheld due to his age, has been charged with unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of a firearm on school property.
The investigation did not reveal any specific threats made against an individual, police said, and on Saturday there were no additional threats or security concerns arising from the incident.
Last month, a football game at a Mercer County high school was briefly interrupted and wiped out from spectators, after a fight led to the discovery of a teenage boy with a handgun.
No one was injured in this incident.
