Billy Gilmour has made a permanent transfer to Brighton & Hove Albion.

The midfielder arrived at Chelsea in the summer of 2017 from Rangers in his native Scotland. He impressed at our Academy for two years before breaking into Frank Lampard’s side at the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

He made his senior debut in a home game against Sheffield United shortly after turning 18, and was later thrust into the limelight when he won successive Man of the Match awards for impressive performances against Liverpool then Everton in our last two games before. the season was suspended due to the pandemic.

When football resumed, Gilmour’s season was cut short by an injury at Selhurst Park which ruled him out until December 2020. He came back from the bench in a win at Sevilla, and while most of his Minutes into his second senior season arrived in cup competition, he started a crucial league win at Manchester City, shortly before we beat the same team in the Champions League final. The young Scot was an unused substitute at Porto.

Gilmour then established himself in the Scotland side at the delayed Euro 2020 tournament, starring in the goalless draw against England, before spending last season on loan at Norwich.

He leaves Chelsea after playing 22 times for us. Thanks and good luck, Billy!
