Suffolk: Felixstowe and Bury football game canceled

10:36 a.m. January 3, 2022

A Suffolk derby football match has been called off due to a waterlogged football pitch after heavy downpours last night.

Ishmian’s North Division game between Bury Town Football Club and Felixstowe and Walton United Football Club was scheduled to take place at Ram Meadow – the home of Bury Town – at 1 p.m. today, Monday, January 3.

Parts of the county were hit by heavy rain yesterday as a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms was issued for the area.

A statement on the Bury Town website read: “A heavy rain storm on Sunday afternoon left the land inundated and although efforts were made to clear the standing water on Sunday evening, the land was still waterlogged Monday morning when a site inspection took place at 8:30 am.

“If you have purchased tickets for this match, they will be valid for the revamped match, the date of which will be announced in the next week.

“If you are unable to meet the rearranged date you will be fully refunded, details on how to claim your refund will be announced shortly.”

This is the second game in a row for Felixstowe and Walton United Football Club which had to be called off as their game against Maldon and Tiptree was called off due to Covid issues among Maldon players.
