The eight-year-old is seen watching crowds of fans at Old Trafford ahead of kick-off on Saturday afternoon amid a haze of flares, prompting fans to share their own experience of watching football live for the first time. The match proved to be a thriller of a first game for Felix – as well as for United fans everywhere. It ended 3-2 against United after a stunning hat-trick from Cristiano Ronaldo. But, understandably, the youngster had plenty of questions about the game, the fans and everything else attending a Premier League game tends to entail these days. Jacinta’s Twitter post quickly racked up likes and shares as fans around the world bonded over that magical first moment watching a great game.
In the tweet, Jacinta, from Bury, wrote: “First time at Old Trafford today for little legs! He loved it! Questions included: who are the Glazers; can i have flares; who is in the Red Army; why everyone drinks beer; and how come the crowd want Pogba to get screwed!” Jacinta, a long-time Manchester United fan, added: “He said it was the best day of his life! #mufc”
Fans were quick to post their responses to some of the questions – while reminiscing about their own early experiences of attending the Theater of Dreams. Adi Gibson tweeted: “There is no short answer to why United fans drink beer”. While Martin Lowe said, “Ace pic that Jac.. capturing one of those moments in time that punctuate life.”
Mike Tommo said: “He will have learned so much about life in 90 minutes!” Claire Grover tweeted: “I remember how it felt when I was a kid for the first time. Standing in the old Stretford End when everyone was singing and the atmosphere was electric. This is a fantastic photo.” Tweeter @SpinninAlb wrote simply: “Nothing beats your first time at Old Trafford”, and Andy Mac added: “Love to see all the kids having their first experience at Old Trafford, nothing beats this.
The photo was quickly shared across a number of Manchester United fan forums as the Reds reflected on what it was really like to be a fan of the club. Author Wayne Barton shared the photo and wrote: “This should become one of Manchester United’s most iconic modern photographs. And it’s so wonderful he loved it. My nephew got ‘the best day of his life “when we lost on penalties to Middlesbrough. The future is in good hands.”
