The goalkeeper joins the URA Football Club

New URA goalkeeper Yusuf Wasswa has played top level football at Sports Club Villa, Onduparaka, Masavu and most recently UPDF.

Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Football Club has captured goalkeeper Yusuf Wasswa as a free agent.

The soft-spoken goalkeeper was out of contract with the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) where he had served diligently and passionately for two seasons.

Wasswa has signed a two-year contract and is filling the void left by the recovery of James Alitho who suffered the knife on a troubled knee.

He has been training with the Tax Collectors throughout the pre-season and strengthens the Tax Collector’s goalkeeping department which already includes Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi and Hannington Ssebwalunyo.

Wasswa restarts the game

Wasswa is a former goalkeeper for Buddo Secondary School and Buddu Ssaza.

He had also played at Sports Club Villa for two seasons between 2017 and 2019 after playing at Entebbe-based Masavu Football Club a season earlier.

He spent one season at West Nile-based Onduparaka during the 2019-10 spell before switching allegiance to the UPDF.

Wasswa had also played at Kisubi United Football Club and in Buganda Province in the FUFA drumming tournament.

Apart from the superb game-reading antics, he is gifted with excellent command, quick reflexes, and fast game restart.

He is also known for his expertise in penalty saves.

Before the start of the 2022-2023 season, URA signed a few other players like right-back James Begisa Penza (UPDF), midfielder Salim Abdallah (SC Villa), striker George Ssenkaaba (Express) and in advanced talks with an experienced striker. Derrick Nsibambi.

The team coached by Sam Timbe recently toured Rwanda where they played to a draw with Rayon Sport at Kigali Nyamirambo Regional Stadium.

Raphael Esaluwe gave Rayon Sport the opener past goalkeeper Ssebwalunyo three minutes into the second stanza before Ibrahim Dada leveled things with 12 minutes left before the climax of this pre-season fixture.

Internally, they played a few preparation matches. Most notable is the 2-1 win over Lugazi Select with fresh blood Ssenkaaba on target with a well-taken brace.

They also traveled to the West Nile region and defeated Kobobo Rising Stars 1-0 thanks to Dada.
