ANNAPOLIS, Maryland— Navy and Notre Dame will play on foreign soil for the first time since 2012 when Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland hosted the historic rivalry for the 96th meeting between the two schools, the naval academy director has said. Chet Gladchuk and Notre Dame Vice President and James E. Rohr Director of Athletics Jack Swarbrick announced. The game will take place on August 26, 2023 and will air on NBC and simulcast on Peacock.

“We are very happy to return to the Aviva Stadium in Dublin for the 96and play the Navy-Notre Dame game,” Gladchuk said. “In 2012, it was one of the biggest airlifts in all of sports with more than 35,000 people traveling from the United States to witness the beauty of the Ireland and pageantry which is a Navy-Notre Dame Football Weekend. We expect as many to return in 2023. Navy fan support and enthusiasm for this game in Ireland is already overwhelming and with the continued support of the Prime Minister and Government of Ireland, it will be again an extraordinary experience. We look forward to our visit and a competitive contest against Notre Dame in a country that knows no bounds for hospitality.”

We will have a very special welcome for the teams and supporters of Notre Dame and Navy when they visit us. for the Aer Lingus College Football Classic in August 2023.”

NBC Sports’ production of the 2023 game will be historic for Notre Dame’s broadcast partner. It will be the first foreign college football television broadcast for the industry leader in live sports programming.

The Navy-Notre Dame rivalry was the longest continuous intersectional rivalry in college football before the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the 2020 meeting, with the two schools meeting annually since 1927. In addition to playing the 2023 game in Ireland, Swarbrick and Chet GladchukNavy athletic director, also reached an agreement to extend the series through 2032.

Notre Dame and the Navy will jointly request an NCAA waiver to move this contest to August 26, 2023, from its originally scheduled date. This follows the same pattern as the canceled 2020 game in Ireland.
The 94th meeting between the two schools will take place on Saturday, November 6 at the Notre-Dame stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET and will be seen nationally on NBC and broadcast on Peacock.
