“What an awful footballer”

Fans have slammed their new Liverpool signing, Darwin Nunez, after his incredible miss against Manchester United. The Reds started their pre-season on a rather disappointing note with their arch-rivals beating them 4-0.

The two English giants faced off at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok in the Bangkok Century Cup. Erik ten Hag will be happy to start his era at Old Trafford with a big victory against their bitter rivals, but in a friendly.

Jurgen Klopp made a lot of changes during the game to try to strike the right balance between youngsters and experienced players. Ten Hag, on the other hand, named a pretty solid XI early on and reaped the benefits.

Jadon Sancho opened the scoring for United after just 12 minutes, taking advantage of a defensive error by young Reds full-back Issac Mabaya. Fred doubled the lead with a sumptuous kick from the edge of the box just on the half hour mark.

Anthony Martial scored the Red Devils’ third goal just three minutes later with a deft dink past Alisson Becker. Jurgen Klopp’s side fared much better in the second half but were caught by Facundo Pellistri at the break, who scored Manchester United’s fourth goal.

Liverpool fans took to Twitter to blast summer signing Darwin Nunez after the club-record signing missed an absolute keeper late in the game.

The Uruguay international had his best chance of the match when the ball fell to him after the rebound from Mohamed Salah’s shot. But the former Benfica striker threw him at the post.

Let’s see how Liverpool fans reacted on Twitter to such a big miss.

.@JulianWard surely we still have a warranty on Nunez?? https://t.co/wFB8USJyid

Liverpool had their chances, but Manchester United took theirs

The 4-0 scoreline might not say it all as Liverpool had plenty of chances during the game but their finishing was below par.

The Reds also hit the post three times, while Manchester United were quite prolific with their chances.

A good chunk of Liverpool’s 32 players who have played won’t even see this season. And as for those who will, the majority had their first training session yesterday. Fabio Carvalho looked good, as did Harvey Elliot and Tyler Morton. I’m not worried. #LFC twitter.com/LFC/status/154…

Erik ten Hag will be happy with how his team fared, but Jurgen Klopp also has reason to be excited.

New signing Fabio Carvalho, in particular, has been hugely impressive for the Merseyside club and once denied by the woodwork.

Harvey Elliott also had an impressive outing, but Darwin Nunez certainly didn’t make the best first impression.
